LAUNDRY
It is always there. It never goes away. You can never get on top of it. But taking care of it sure does make the whole world smell better!
LIFE
It is always there. And as hard as we try, we will never get on top of it, either. Yet living it one moment at a time certainly does enable us to treasure each moment and laugh a little more often. With God, as the Creator and inventor of life, as our source of strength and director of our days, we can learn to handle each pile with grace and joy-filled hearts.
TAKING IT ON
We all have different ways of going about getting our laundry done. Some do it all on one day. Others wash a bit each morning. Few of us ever get a load fully folded and put away before we're fishing through for fresher digs. But how do we go about unearthing the piles life brings forth? Do we dig in and uncover truths? Do we brush it aside, hoping to sift out the dirt? What is our game plan for tackling the loads our life experiences toss our way? Are we willing to learn to "Be still, and know that I am God..." (Psalm 46:10) while allowing "...God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose." (Philippians 2:13)?
FINDING A ROUTINE
Our dirty laundry isn't going to end up in the machine for its routine cleaning without our participation. The routine is universal: collect, deposit, sort...set the water, attack the stains, stuff it in, and set to go. Try skipping a step here and there and you might end up just shy of okay. Continue in the suds-free rut, and those clothes will soon show the effects. Whites...dingy. Brights...darkened. Sweet fragrances...foul. Whether or not we care to admit it, the same goes for our heart, soul, and mind. Skip a few steps here and there and no one notices. Keep on that path and the digression becomes blatant to all.
These never ending piles of life are here to stay, so it is time we begin to live it from under the pile, tackling it once piece at a time. Sometimes that means the really stinky clothes will have to overflow the laundry baskets in order for our souls to soak up all God has to teach us and enable us to spread around His sweet love to our families and friends.
